Rejected from Heaven: The Danger of Provocation

Rejected from Heaven: The Danger of Provocation

In the age of provocation and anger, we must remember what Islam teaches us.

Nowadays we often see people insulting, bullying, cursing, accusing, stigmatizing easily. Such behavior filling our daily life, come out from mouth to mouth, flowing out from preacher’s podium. Even in sermon or other religious ceremony. As if no one can stop it like an arrow flies away to the target.

It seems like no way to extinguish the flame, no way to stop the fire. Almost everybody is now in flame, burning, seethe, enthusiastic to provoke and to strike fire across boundaries; religions even countries.

‘Intelligence’ as the exclusive element of human being to gain respect, is no longer used by human. Intelligence and logic have been destroyed from social conversation. All human have for consideration is now merely emotion which could burst whenever comes the moment.

There is one thing that we cannot understand about people who always controlled by their anger is their overconfidence to claim themselves as the one who understand Islam the most.

This kind of mental reminds us of the hadith:

“Souls are like recruited troops: Those who are like qualities are inclined to each other, but those who have dissimilar qualities, differ.”

I think the hadith aims to tell us, try to tease our sense: if you (your soul) understand each other, you will be in peace. On the contrary, when you are denying each other, you will be hostile. It’s on our choice.

“So what should we do now? What’s actually the essence of the Quran and Hadith?” Someone asked me then. I told him that we, us or them, should be soon realize on the effect of sparking provocation among human. It is a moral evil, ugly behavior (al-akhlaq al-madzmumah) which can destroy ourselves, our coexistence living together.

The Qur’an tells us:

And do not obey any vile swearer, scandal-monger, tale bearer. (Al-Qalam, 10-11).

The prophet said:

“Here I tell you the worst human being among you. They are the agitators, the people who addicted in separating lovers, and the disturbers of innocent humans. (Hadith Bukhari)

The prophet also said that the agitators will never get to heaven:

From Huzaifah, I heard the Messenger said, “The provocators will never be in heaven.” (Muslim no. 303).

In addition, Al-Hafizh Ibn Mundzir said: It has been agreed among the Muslim scholars that agitation is a very big sin in front of Allah.

May Allah save us, and protect us from doing agitation, provocation among humans and such ugly behavior.
